student Mateo Rey reflects on his experiences that fueled his passion for taking care of others. When he was young, he spent time in the hospital with respiratory distress. He also remembers the time his mom got into a serious car crash and had to stay in the hospital herself for nine months. It was the care he and his mom received that made him appreciate the combination of science and people skills.
Mateo is a third-year student. The helps people with undergrad degrees switch careers, providing them with nursing degrees without having a background in nursing.
Thanks to a generous scholarship from Rush donors, Mateo has been able to fully focus on his education. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is involved in student and community organizations.
鈥淚鈥檓 really thankful for the and for the donors who believe in students like me and choose to invest in us. I can鈥檛 wait to share all I鈥檝e learned with my patients and future generations of Rush nursing students,鈥 he says.
